Conference Keynotes

Day One | Monday, October 30, 2017

Mohamed Abdel-Kader is Executive Director of the Stevens Initiative. The Steven’s Initiative is a private-public partnership to build career and global competence skills for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the International and Foreign Language Division at the Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education. Mohamed was responsible for encouraging and promoting the study of foreign languages and the study of the cultures of other countries at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary schools.

 

Daniel Obst is President, Chief Executive Officer and member of the AFS Board. Mr. Obst oversees and directs the future strategy of AFS, a global network of 59 member organizations with programs in 99 countries. As a premier nonprofit intercultural education organization, AFS educates and global citizens of all ages through study abroad programs, intercultural learning and volunteerism.

 

 

Day Two | Tuesday, October 31, 2017

Denise Lewin Loyd is Associate Professor of Business Administration at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Lewin Loyd holds a PhD. in Management and Organizations from the Kellogg School of Management and served as an Associate Professor of Management at the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Ms. Lewin Loyd’s research has focused on the impact of diversity in groups, specifically, the way group composition affects the cognition, feelings, and behavior of individuals.
